  • Taking Kiss to the grave

Kiss fans can now take their love for KISS to the grave.

The blood-spitting rock mogul of Kiss, Gene Simmons, has added yet another product to the glam rock band's ever-growing merchandising universe: the "Kiss Kasket." The coffin features the faces of the four founding members of the band, the Kiss logo and the words "Kiss Forever."

"If you want to take that final trip with Kiss, you can," Simmons said when he unveiled the coffin last week at the Licensing Trade Show, the New York Times reported.

If the idea of death was too morbid, fans could use the casket as a cooler, Simmons added.

  • WILL KISS SEND "DAWSON'S" UP THE CREEK

A scene on The WB's teen-targeted drama Dawson's Creek will show two gay teens locked in an extended kiss Wednesday night, USA Today reported Monday. "I timed it," Scott Seomin of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) told the newspaper. "It's like a 5 1/2-second mouth-to-mouth kiss. We haven't seen anything like this before on network TV." The episode is certain to arouse anger among numerous religious and pro-family activists. Heather Cirmo of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. told the newspaper that the episode will do a disservice to "impressionable teens who have questions about their sexuality by promoting a myth that homosexuality is something you're born with."

  • EXTRA: KISS Cleans Out Its Closets

HOLLYWOOD, June 27, 2000 -- Back in the days when KISS was a renegade rock 'n' roll band, it was rumored that their name was an acronym for Knights In Satan's Service. But after the much-publicized KISS auction last weekend at Paramount Studios here in Hollywood, we can think of better ones: "Krap Inc. Salvage Sale," or maybe "Kapitalists In Self-Service." And we're sure of at least one thing: Gene Simmons never throws away anything. Anything.

Let's say you're a KISS fan, a real die-hard. OK, how much would you pay for a New Year's greeting card that Simmons once received from bandmate Paul Stanley? A card imprinted with the saying, "Is it my imagination, or is life getting better?" and bearing Paul's handwritten inscription: "Dear Gene, hope you like these. Thanks for another great year. -- Paul."

Well, somebody from Baton Rouge paid $850 for it. That's 850 bucks, not $

  • MUSIC NOTES: KISS Off to Town?

KISS SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 3, 2000 -- Maybe all that makeup has finally corroded their brains. The monster rockers of KISS are formally apologizing for forgetting where they were during an April 22 concert in Greenville, S.C. During the show, one of the group's giant video screens put up a graphic referring to the town as "Greenfield."

    Oops.

"To our friends in GREENVILLE," the band said in a blame-it-on-the-stupid-techie ad taken out in a local newspaper last week. "… It has always been KISS's mission to give you the greatest rock and roll show and treat you with the respect you deserve."

So, how come only Greenville deserved that mea culpa?

CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED: Just in time for summer vacation comes a Christina Aguilera tour. The popster's brought-to-you-by-Sears (and Levi's) extravaganza is scheduled to kick off July 31 in Missouri. It'll

  • EXTRA: KISS Off?

SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 10, 2000 -- Say it ain't so, Space Ace! KISS After 27 years of greasepaint, fireworks and three-chord nonsense, the heavy-metal conglomerate known as KISS kicks off its farewell tour Saturday night at the Blockbuster/Desert Sky Pavilion in Phoenix. The fearsome foursome has been raking in the millions ever since they re-donned their makeup and costumes in 1996, but now the band members insist they're hanging up their platform shoes -- for good.

A mere plot to sell more tickets, you say? Please. Would a guy in monster makeup lie?

"I don't know what else we could do except keep making records and keep touring," bassist Gene Simmons recently told Wall of Sound. "And I admire with all my heart what the Stones have done, which is basically put your head up high and go forward and do whatever you want to do that makes you happy instead of tryin

  • ROLE CALL: Billy Kisses Off 'Ally McBeal'

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 11, 2000 -- And now we know: "Ally McBeal" (the series, if not the character) will not end up with Billy Thomas.

At least that's the way it looks with word that actor Gil Bellows -- Billy to Calista Flockhart's titular heroine -- will depart hit Fox legal-eagle series at the end of this season.

The network has confirmed that Bellows' Billy Thomas character is to leave the Cage/Fish firm in the spring. But hope lives -- at least when Fox notes that Bellows/Billy will be back on a recurring basis next TV year. No details on how many episodes that gig will entail or under what circumstances the Billy character will be written off.

According to gossip maven Liz Smith, Bellows wants to (what else?) pursue other/different opportunities -- like, um, the movies. The 32-year-old actor recently completed work on the big-screen romantic-drama "Beauti
