This could be the series' savior!
Also, Jar-Jar Binks to be replaced with Ed Asner.
Are we really ready for Jar Jar Binks in 3D? I've got a bad feeling about this.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Dec. 28, 1999 -- It was a record-breaking year in Hollywood as the sale of movie tickets topped $7 billion for the first time and more films than ever before grossed at least $100 million, thanks in large part to the box-office power of the small-fry set.Movies starring kids ("Star Wars: Episode One -- The Phantom Menace," "The Sixth Sense," "Big Daddy"), movies for kids ("Toy Story 2," "Tarzan") and movies made by filmmakers who recently were kids ("The Blair Witch Project") are among the 17 films that blew past the century mark in 1999. Topping them all, of course, "The Phantom Menace." Even if critics found George Lucas' "Star Wars" prequel wanting (and certain members of the public found Jar-Jar Binks annoying), the space flick lived up to the advance hype where ticket sales were concerned. The film, released in May, grossed an estimated $429.9
SANTA MONICA, Calif., January 5, 2000 -- Leave it to George Lucas to make the home-video release of "The Phantom Menace" an event worthy of international hype. The top-grossing film of 1999, with a worldwide haul of more than $920 million, will hit stores around the globe during the week of April 3, Fox announced today. The U.S. release date is April 4. (That's a Tuesday. Plan accordingly.)Given the ambitious international release strategy, the studio is in hyperbole overdrive. It's also going to be an Easter hit, at least according to Fox, which passed up the lucrative Christmas 1999 shopping season to lie in wait for April 2000. SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 4, 2000 -- Today's the day. The one you indubitably marked on your calendar months ago: April 4, aka the release of "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace" on video (and video only). Unless, of course, you got the tape a couple of days ago. You see, as is usual, unbridled "Phantom Menace" frenzy has taken the form of advance demands. But besides the publicly known convenience of preordering a copy, there were other -- some clandestine, some not -- ways of obtaining early-bird videos. And we're not even talking about bootlegs (which, technically, have been available on a fine New York City street corner near you since, well, May). From virtual stores to old-school plaster-and-wood stores, the official "Phantom Menace" video has been all over the place in recent days. Consider the virtual junkyard that is ebay (www.ebay.com), where
SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 17, 2000 -- Steely Queen Amidala is absolutely not a draft dodger. Natalie Portman So says the rep for Natalie Portman, who played the battle-ready ruler in "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace," denying quotes attributed to the 18-year-old actress in an Israeli newspaper that had the Jerusalem-born star saying she'd "passed on" an army draft notice sent to her last year. (In Israel, all citizens -- men and women -- must do mandatory service upon turning age 18.) "They made up the quotes," Portman publicist Kelly Bush tells today's New York Post. "She was never notified by the army for service." According to Bush, in fact, Portman is "exempt" from the army. And as an official at the Israeli consulate in New York confirmed to the paper, Israelis do not have to serve in the army if they leave the country before the age of 16.
