  • ”INVISIBLE” VICTORY

    HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 29, 2000 -- Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you; the Sci-Fi Channel has decided to renew the smash series, “Invisible Man,” for a second season of 22 episodes.

    The Sci-Fi Network will also be airing another all-original series--the underwater epic, “The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne.” Set in the 19th century, the action series, which will start in January, will feature the globe-spanning adventures of Verne.

    “Verne,” which will be shot in Montreal, will star Chris Demetral as Verne and will feature such high-profile guest stars as David Warner, John Rhys-Davies, Michael Moriatry and Patrick Duffy.


  • Court victory for "Survivor" Stillman

    A Los Angeles judge finalized his decision Tuesday to throw out two breach-of-contract claims for $35 million in a lawsuit against former Survivor contestant Stacey Stillman, who alleges that the show is rigged.


  • Aimster wins legal victory

    Score one for Aimster. An Albany, N.Y., judge has ruled that the Internet song-swap service has a legitimate reason to file a copyright infringement suit against the major record companies. U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence Kahn refused pleas from the Recording Industry Association of America to throw out the case. Kahn said he made the decision to "enable a party who is challenged, or endangered in its enjoyment of what he claims to be his rights, to initiate the proceedings against his tormentor and remove the cloud by an authoritative determination of plaintiff's legal right," according to The Associated Press.

    Despite last year's dismal ratings, the 2001 NBA finals scored a victory on Friday night, earning a share seven percent higher than 2000's showdown.


  • Nielsens: NCAA Coverage Scores Victory

    CBS shot and scored in last week's primetime ratings, as its coverage of the NCAA men's basketball tournament brought in 10 percent more viewers than last year in the prized 18-49 age bracket, with approximately 9.11 million viewers on Thursday night alone. CBS' basketball coverage also scored a victory on Saturday night, slightly edging out FOX in total viewers with an estimated 10 million households watching. How did the XFL fare against the NCAA tourney? NBC's flailing coverage of the wanna-be football league hit a new all-time low, earning a dismal 2.0 rating Saturday night. XFL viewership was 23 percent below its embarrassing season average -- which means about three people tuned in. In the battle between the sporting events, score one for the NCAA.
