The Oscar-winning actress' latest action thriller Flightplan, in which she plays a grieving widow who mysteriously loses her child on a flight, opened at No.1 with $24.6 million, pushing last week's champ, Just Like Heaven down to third place with $9.8 million. Flightplan is the second best opener for Foster, behind Panic Room, which opened in 2002 with $30 million.
The romantic comedy Just Like Heaven, starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo, opened on top with $16.5 million, forcing the courtroom-horror drama Exorcism of Emily Rose into second place with $15.3 million.
