Shrek the Third made movie history at the British box office over the weekend, taking the all-time biggest opening for an animated film.
The cartoon sequel, which features the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz, hauled in £16.67 million ($33.3 million), also making it the largest opening weekend of the year to date.
Shrek the Third‘s record-breaking tally knocked Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Ocean’s Thirteen down to Nos. 2 and 3 respectively.
Rounding out a top five made up entirely of American sequels were Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and Hostel: Part II.
