Jordan Peele left fans on Twitter terrified after the director shared the first teaser clips for his new movie, Candyman.
The star described the flick as a “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 horror classic of the same name, and taking to social media he shared a first glimpse of the flick, starring Teyonah Parris, Rebecca Spence, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, ahead of its trailer release on Thursday (February 26, 2020).
The six-second clip begins with Teyonah uttering the titular character’s name into a mirror, as the superstition goes, before cutting to Rebecca, Nathan, and Yahya who do the same, who say “Candyman” a total of five times.
Peele also prompted followers to tweet his name with a hashtag five times to receive and additional treat, after which he posted another six-second video with quick detailed glimpses.
The clip shows a hand reaching for a hook, the Candyman’s weapon of choice, before it drops from inside a long sleeve. There’s also a cup of water dropping to the ground, before Teyonah lets out a chilling scream and flees.
Candyman told the story of a hook-wielding figure who terrorizes a Chicago housing project when his name is said five times into a mirror. Peele has penned the new movie, which is directed by Nia DaCosta, and offers a fresh take on the legend in the same, now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood.
It follows his earlier box office hits Get Out and Us.
