The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards were an exciting night of celebration and recognition for the best in film and television. This year, the awards featured a variety of honors, including the prestigious “MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss”. 2023’s awards ceremony came with an air of unease though as the recent Hollywood writers strike has caused a ripple effect on the rest of the entertainment industry, and this event was no exception.
The network was initially scheduled to broadcast last Sunday’s event live, but due to the ongoing strike, they had to settle for a pre-taped special. Multiple attendees withdrew from the show, including Drew Barrymore, the initial host (although she pledged to return for the 2024 ceremony). Despite proceeding without an official host, the awards show drew great viewership and pivoted by including flashback clips from past ceremonies, making for a memorable, albeit slightly less engaging, event.
