Monday: ‘Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man’

[IMG:L]Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man — 7/6c on Sundance

In the spirit of the Sundance Film Festival–and, fine, the lack of any must-see TV on this night–it’s only right to check out some of its channel’s programming.

And Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man, airing tonight, is a great place to start.

Legendary singer-songwriter/poet/novelist Cohen, the documentary’s subject (duh!), isn’t exactly as well known by today’s teens as, say, Miley Cyrus, but their parents can look quasi-hip by telling ‘em what’s up.

It’s also an opportunity for parents to teach their Generation-Y(ouTube) children a musical history lesson: There was in fact a time, not so long ago, when musicians actually wrote their own songs.

But younger viewers might be compelled to watch on their own terms by just one word: Bono.

The U2 frontman is but one of Cohen’s famous friends/fans to appear in the documentary; they sing “Tower of Song” together.

Other, less famous musicians contributing Cohen covers for I’m Your Man–and its superb soundtrack–include Rufus and Martha Wainright, Nick Cave, and Beth Orton.

[IMG:R]Catwoman — 8/7c on AMC
Catwoman–it takes the “C” (“Classics”) out of “AMC” (“American Movie Classics”). So for tonight let’s just call the network “AM”: “American Movies.” Seriously, AMC, what’s the criteria over there?!
