Film critic Roger Ebert is hoping to be fully recovered from cancer surgery in time for the Academy Awards next February.
In a letter published on Thursday in the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, where he has been a film critic since 1967, Ebert says he’s looking forward to returning to work early next year.
He plans to do occasional reviews until he makes a full recovery after reviewing The Queen yesterday.
The 64-year-old wrote, “One thing I’ve discovered is that I love my job more than I thought I did, and I love my wife even more.”
Ebert had surgery on June 16 to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland, and he also had emergency surgery on July 1 to repair a burst blood vessel.
He is now recovering at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
