Disney Conspiracy Theory: Captain Hook Killed Ariel’s Mother

After The Little Mermaid was released in 1989, fans wondered about the ambiguous fate of Ariel’s mother. In the film, Ariel and her many mermaid sisters are raised by their father King Triton and chaperoned by their father’s right-hand crab, Sebastian. But no mention of a mother figure is made.

That is, until 2008 when The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning came out and answered fans’ questions about Mama Mermaid’s whereabouts. The movie unfolds the terrible tale of Queen Athena’s death by pirate invasion but we’re only realizing now that that might only be a partial answer.

In an epic Disney conspiracy theory, fans are theorizing that Queen Athena was killed by Captain Hook’s pirate ship and that she also made an appearance in Peter Pan.

We know from a scene in Peter Pan that mermaids exist in Neverland. Specifically, there was a red-haired mermaid with a blue tail, a mermaid who bears a striking resemblance to Ariel (see below, the mermaid on the left). The mermaids in Neverland were frightened of the pirates who trolled and terrorized their waters–meaning Captain Hook and his crew.

Since pirates were the main threat in Neverland, it makes sense that these two worlds could collide. Additionally, King Triton’s complete aversion to humans can be explained, considering humans were at fault for his wife’s death.

What do you think: Could Captain Hook be to blame for the death of Ariel’s mom? And do you think Athena is the mermaid pictured in the Peter Pan scene? Let us know what you think below.
