J.K. Rowling Completes Script for Fantastic Beasts Sequel

Author J.K. Rowling has completed work on the screenplay for the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them follow-up.

The Harry Potter movie spin-off, starring Eddie Redmayne as wizard Newt Scamander, was a huge hit at the box office last year (16), raking in over $814 billion at the international box office, and novelist Rowling revealed on Sunday (28May17) things are coming together perfectly on time for fans to see the sequel on the big screen in 2018.

After an anxious fan on Twitter asked, “@jk_rowling have you already write (sic) the script of Fantastic Beasts 2? TELL ME EVERYTHING WOMAN,” the author responded with a firm confirmation: “Yes, I have,” Rowling wrote, “but I CAN’T TELL YOU ANYTHING YET, WOMAN.”

The original Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film was so successful, studio bosses at Warner Brothers Pictures renewed the franchise to include five films, two more than the initial trilogy agreed upon during pre-production discussions in 2014. The second installment of the series is scheduled to begin filming in July (17) and is slated for release in November, 2018.

Jude Law has joined the cast of the follow-up and will play beloved Harry Potter character Professor Albus Dumbledore – a character portrayed by the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon – as a young man.

Zoe Kravitz, Katherine Waterston, and Johnny Depp have also signed up for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 ensemble. Depp will reprise his villainous character Gellert Grindelwald in the movie that is set decades before the birth of Rowling’s boy wizard Harry Potter.
