The X-Men star will take on the role played by Guillaume Canet in the original – a father on a desperate search for his missing son. Foy will play his ex-wife.

In order to live out the mystery authentically, McAvoy will not have access to a script or dialogue, as was the case for Canet in the French film. Instead, he will have to improvise as each moment plays out during the shoot.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Christian to create My Son for worldwide audiences,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman, STXfilms Motion Picture Group – the studio behind the film. “James will be doing the detective work of the film in real-time, on camera, to create real tension for this thriller.

We like to support bold and innovative storytelling like My Son, and Claire could not be a more spectacular or exciting choice for this film, which is certain to thrill audiences.”
