According to Twitch, Jessica Biel has signed up to play Victoria/Viper in the upcoming sequel The Wolverine, thus becoming a big part of the Marvel universe (we’re not really counting her role in Blade: Trinity) — and making many a geek’s dream come true. No word yet on whether or not those in attendance at Comic-Con paused for a euphoric moment of silence over the news.
The details of the character are sketchy at this point, but Viper — a character originally affiliated with Captain America — is expected to be the villainess of the title character (Hugh Jackman) in The Wolverine. In one iteration of the comics, she conned Logan/Wolverine into marrying her, which made things very complicated between the two, as tends to happen.
The James Mangold-directed Wolverine is due in theaters July 26, 2013, adding to an already packed schedule for Biel that includes roles in the sorta-biopic Hitchcock and the drama The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. She’ll also be seen this summer in Total Recall and Justin Timberlake‘s wedding, as the bride.
