Joseph Gordon-Levitt Casts ’80s Sitcom Star as His Dad — Guess Who?

Tony DanzaJoseph Gordon-Levitt has cast Who’s the Boss? and Taxi star Tony Danza to play his father in his upcoming directorial debut. Maybe Danza helped Gordon-Levitt land a role in 1994’s Angels in the Outfield, and the latter is returning the favor to the former? Either way, An-juh-luh!

In his first acting role in a widely released film since 2005’s Best Picture winner Crash, Danza’s paternal character is described as a “sports-loving father who doesn’t pay enough attention to his family.” Addiction, which also marks Gordon-Levitt’s feature debut as a screenwriter, focuses on a “Don Juan-type” (played by the triple-duty-pulling Gordon-Levitt) who’s trying to change his ways and become a less selfish person. Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore are already signed up for the comedy, tentatively scheduled for release next year.

Unlike Danza, the in-demand Gordon-Levitt will be seen on the big screen quite a bit in the near future, with large roles in two of the most highly anticipated movies of 2012, this summer’s The Dark Knight Rises and this winter’s Lincoln, among others. Pretty boss.
