Lin-Manuel Miranda: ‘Hamilton movie was a three-day shoot with the best-rehearsed cast ever’

The filming of the new Hamilton musical movie took place over three days with the “best-rehearsed cast in history”, according to Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The singer/songwriter and actor, who will debut the film version of his Broadway smash hit later this month on streaming site Disney+, reveals the shoot came together seamlessly after a Sunday matinee.

“We filmed a live performance with cameras in the audience… and then the audience left and we continued to film close-ups and dolly shots and crane shots all night Sunday. We filmed close-ups and steady-cam and all the coverage you would wanna get in a movie on our day off on Monday, continuing to film Tuesday morning all the way to another live show Tuesday night with all the cameras in the audience in different positions.

“It was basically a three-day film shoot with the best-rehearsed cast in the history of the movies, because we’d all been doing the show for a year at this point.”
