The Story of Pictures From Home

Pictures From Home is an adaptation from the visual memoir of the same name by Larry Sultan. The show follows Larry as he tries to capture his parents’ life through photography. However,  in doing so the idyllic facade of his family begins to crumble. The production’s official website describes the story as an “exploration of the power and limits of art, revealing more than words ever could about our families and ourselves.”

The Legacy of Larry Sultan

Larry Sultan was an American Photographer whose work blended documentary and staged photography. His photography highlighted the psychological and physical landscape of suburban family life.  Sultan’s pioneering book and later exhibition Pictures From Home (1992) was a decade long project that featured his mother and father that explored photography’s role in creating familial mythologies.
