Sir Anthony Hopkins has heaped praise on blockbuster movie mogul Michael Bay, insisting the director is “a genius”.
The acting great never paid much attention to Bay’s films until he was cast in his latest Transformers movie, The Last Knight, and, after doing his research, The Silence of the Lambs star has come to conclusion the filmmaker is among the best there is in Hollywood.
“I saw the first two (Transformers films)… and I caught up,” he tells Yahoo! Movies. “I’ve seen them all now. Terrific. Created by a genius.
“All those machines and those Transformers are created by Michael. And he was telling me about the work he did on them. How he’d refine them and go in to the special effects guys, and design them, and get the details of light on metal and all that.
“He told me all that at breakfast, before I stared on the film. I thought, ‘This guy’s a genius, he really is’. He’s the same ilk as Oliver Stone and (Steven) Spielberg and (Martin) Scorsese. Brilliant. Savants. Really, they are.”
Sir Anthony plays an English aristocrat in the latest Transformers blockbuster, opposite Mark Wahlberg and Laura Haddock. The film hits cinemas in June (17).
