Tom Hanks is going back to the 19th century to star in a film adaptation of bestselling novel News Of The World.

Lion writer Luke Davies will pen the script for the post-American Civil War movie, based on the 2016 book by Paulette Jiles.

News of the World follows the adventures of Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, who makes his way through the north of Texas in 1870, sharing news headlines with locals to keep them abreast of current events they would otherwise have no idea about.

During his travels, he comes across a young white orphan who was rescued from tribal kidnappers and agrees to escort the stubborn girl to her relatives in San Antonio.

In addition to taking on a starring role, Hanks will also help to produce the project with The Danish Girl’s Gail Mutrux for studio bosses at Fox 2000, according to Deadline.com.

A release date has yet to be set.
