In the latest movie news, Amanda Seyfried has signed on to play Russell Crowe’s daughter in the upcoming film Fathers and Daughters. Gabriele Muccino, who is best known for The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds, will direct the drama, which follows the lives of Crowe and Seyfriend’s characters, jumping back and forth between 1980s and present day Manhattan.

During the 1980s, the film will focus on a famous writer and widower (Crowe) who is battling a mental illness that interferes with the raising of his 5 year old daughter. In present day, the daughter (Seyfried) is a 30-year-old woman who still struggles with the effects of growing up with her unstable father. The film is being produced by Voltage Productions with a script written by up-and-coming writer Brad Desch.

While Seyfried only today signed on, Crowe joined the cast earlier in the week. Muccino commented on the addition of, Crowe saying, “This is a performance-driven movie, and therefore I couldn’t ask for a better actor than Russell to deliver this intensely emotional drama. It’s edgy, heart-wrenching, and uplifting at the same time. To me, it feels like a classic American movie that recalls the great character dramas of the 70s like Kramer Vs. Kramer and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.”

Both Crowe and Seyfried were recently seen in Les Miserables, and are set to start filming Fathers and Daughters in December.
