Filmmaker Michael Class is so disgusted by the lauding of gay cowboy epic Brokeback Mountain he is launching a new film awards ceremony celebrating morals in movies.
The Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal-starring Brokeback Mountain has claimed four Golden Globes, this year’s prestigious Producers Guild of America (PGA) award and looks set to dominate the Oscars in March.
But Class insists the movie is “morally confused,” and also condemns the George Clooney-starring Syriana and Steven Spielberg‘s Munich.
Class, who heads independent studio Magic Picture Frame Studio, says, “Syriana blames America for terrorism. Munich confuses justice with vengeance. Brokeback Mountain? What’s positive about a film whose main character’s sexual behavior destroys a family?
“They are morally confused—I don’t want my kids seeing them.”
The conservative producer is calling on the media to back his concept, The American Values Awards, and insists his ceremony will honor family orientated movies such as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
