Dennis Leary Joins ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot

ALT TEXTThe Spider-Man reboot continues to gather one helluva cast. After just signing Martin Sheen and Sally Field to play Uncle Ben and Aunt May (and already featuring Andrew Garfield as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man), they’ve added another member to the cast: comedian/TV star Dennis Leary, who will play Police Captain George Stacey.

For those who aren’t super familiar with the comic books, George Stacey is the father of Gwen Stacey — to be played by Emma Stone — who is Peter Parker’s first major love interest in the comic books. And he becomes a bit of a father figure to Parker following Uncle Ben’s death. But beyond that, he’s a very strong advocate and supporter of Spider-Man and his heroic antics.

For those fans who remember the sad excuse for a movie that was Spider Man 3, George Stacey was played by James Cromwell.

Now, some fans may be upset because Dennis Leary doesn’t really look like the part, but personally, I’m okay with that. I think audiences may be underestimating his talent. Those who’ve seen Rescue Me recognize that Leary is not only a terrific actor, but he does an excellent job playing a public servant figure. And with the current cast, he seems to fit in quite nicely.
