Eddie Murphy Lands Lead Voice Role in ‘Hong Kong Phooey’

ALTA year after the completion of the Shrek franchise, it looks like Eddie Murphy has found a new animation vehicle to a hitch a ride on: Hong Kong Phooey.

Murphy has signed on to voice the main character, Penry — a crime-fighting kung fu master who just happens to be a dog — in the upcoming big-screen adaptation/update of the 1970s Hanna-Barbera cartoon series.

Alex Zamm, probably best known for a movie that hasn’t yet hit theaters (Tooth Fairy 2), is already on board to direct.

Murphy, meanwhile, will next be seen in November’s action comedy Tower Heist, directed by Brett Ratner and co-starring Ben Stiller.
