Haley Joel Osment talked to ghosts and did nice things for strangers. But that’s more or less all we’ve seen him do (not counting that time he was a robot…but let’s just not talk about that). After a lengthy absence from the spotlight, Osment is taking the starring role in a new science fiction mystery titled I’ll Follow You Down. In the film, directed by Richie Mehta (Amal), will take Osment’s character on a quest to understand what happened to his missing scientist father.
Osment’s last big film was almost ten years ago. He starred among Michael Caine and Robert Duvall in Secondhand Lions, a followup to the young actor’s Sixth Sense and Pay It Forward acclaim. In recent years, Osment has been in a couple of projects that never won a great deal of attention. Now twenty-three years-old, Osment might be kicking off his adult acting career with this new sci-fi mystery.
Since many of us haven’t seen the actor in quite some time, we have no idea what to prepare for with this new role. Is adult Osment just a larger version of the wide-eyed, good-natured young chap who rode Dorothy Harris’ schoolbus and sang in an all-bear country band? Or will he surprise us with a completely new style? What is your Osmentality on the issue?
