‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Gives a Fluffy First Look at Jena Malone’s Johanna Mason — GALLERY

Almost immediately after The Hunger Games hit theaters last March, discussions began about which actors would and should take on the characters who’d be introduced in the cinematic chapter to follow, Catching Fire. One of the second story’s biggest additions would be Johanna Mason, a complicated character who’d balance somewhere between friend and rival to Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). The role attracted names like Kristen Bell, Mia Wasikowska, and Zoe Aggeliki, resulting in the divergent fan bases all clamoring to sell their respective choice’s superiority. Eventually, Johanna landed in the hands of Jena Malone, whom we have seen in Donnie Darko, Pride & Prejudice, Sucker Punch, and Hatfields & McCoys.

Malone’s casting might have stirred rage in Bell devotees, Wasikowska enthusiasts, and whatever people actually know who Zoe Aggeliki is. But perhaps minds will change now that this first look at Malone’s incarnation of Johanna is available — the latest update of the Capitol Couture Portraits gallery features a fluffy, feathery Mason, sporting a white rose and a dead cold look.
