Jeff Bridges to Star in ‘The Giver’ Alongside ‘Maleficent’s Brenton Thwaites

It looks like after years of speculation and hesitation, Jeff Bridges’ film adaptation of The Giver is finally coming together. Bridges and The Weinstein Company have snagged Australian actor Brenton Thwaites to star in the film adaptation of Lois Lowry’s 1993 novel.

According to Deadline, Thwaites will star alongside Bridges as Jonas, The next Receiver of Memory in the heavily ordered and seemingly perfect society. In the child-ridden dystopian society, Jonas bonds with the previous Receiver (Bridges) and discovers the lies that dominate their world and a more independent way of living.

Fans may recognize Thwaites from last summer’s Lifetime film Blue Lagoon: The Awakening or from his highly anticipated role as the Prince in Disney’s upcoming Maleficent with Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning. The Giver is set to start filming in South Africa later this fall.
