Somewhat lost amid all of the controversy surrounding Lars Von Trier’s strange behavior at this year’s Cannes Film Festival was the emergence of Kirsten Dunst as an elite actress. The 29-year-old Spider-Man star’s breakthrough performance in Melancholia, Von Trier’s acclaimed existential drama, earned her the festival’s Best Actress award, and has pegged by many industry pundits as a veritable lock for an Oscar nomination.
We caught up with Dunst recently to talk about her new film, her unusual R.E.M. video, and her upcoming R-rated comedy Bachelorette:
