It’s been 12 years since Mean Girls was released and became an instant classic, but it feels like almost no time has passed. It seems like just yesterday that Lindsay Lohan was still an innocent, non-drug addicted rising star. If you think about it, the girls in the film would be just past their 10 year high school reunion, which is why we need a sequel (and we’re not talking about the dreadful Mean Girls 2 which we’d like to pretend doesn’t exist).
We’re not alone in wanting Mean Girls: High School Reunion to happen. Regina George — the leader of the plastics — is itching to reprise her role as Queen Bee. In a recent interview with E! News, Rachel McAdams admitted that she’s totally down for a sequel.
“I loved that movie,” said McAdams. “I love Tina Fey. I love the girls. I mean, to get to kind of have a reunion would be… We got to have a reunion at a photo shoot a couple of years ago and it was over like that and it wasn’t enough. I was back in it.”
McAdams also weighed in on what she thinks Regina would be up to now. Undoubtedly, she’s popped out a few kids (maybe with a hunky pro athlete?).
“Regina’s probably had a few [kids]. Babies who are plotting your demise in the womb,” she said.
McAdams isn’t the only one to want a mean girls sequel. Lindsay Lohan and Daniel Franzese want to reprise their roles as Cady Heron and Damian respectively. The pair started somewhat of a social media petition and encouraged Twitter and Instagram users to push for a Mean Girls sequel. Even Jonathan Bennett, who played the dreamy Aaron Samuels, changed his tune about the idea of a sequel. The actor-turned-spinning instructor originally shot down the idea but quickly changed his mind after a friendly FaceTime session with Lohan.
Tina Fey, if you’re reading this, make it happen. Regina George has spoken, and we must bow down.
