‘Shark Night’ Director to Adapt Anime ‘Kite’

5691637.jpg Director David R. Ellis, whose thriller Shark Night begins its presumably short-lived theatrical run today, has signed on to helm an adaptation of the Japanese anime hit Kite, with an eye toward starting production in early 2012, Variety reports. The film will not be about a murderous kite, as some of us who read the headline hoped, but rather about an abused schoolgirl who decides to become an assassin. The original anime, which debuted in 1998 and ran for 30 episodes, was considered highly controversial for its time, because apparently some people blanched at the sight of a highly sexualized teenage girl murdering people with impunity. Go figure.
