‘Spider-Man’ Beams Up ‘Star Trek’ Writers for Sequel

ALTComic book fans are notoriously protective of the characters they love, but Peter Parker fans don’t have to worry about the Amazing Spider-Man franchise falling into the wrong hands. Sony has hired writing duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to write the second installment, which stars Andrew Garfield.

Kurtzman and Orci have worked together for two decades on projects including Star Trek, Transformers, and Cowboys & Aliens. They’re also lifelong Spidey enthusiasts. “We grew up as huge Spider-Man fans so, to us, the opportunity to work on this film is akin to being handed the Holy Grail,” Kurtzman and Orci said. “We love the direction Sony and the filmmakers are taking the Peter Parker/Spider-Man mythology, and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this legendary franchise.” The first film hits theaters on June 30, and the sequel is set to be released in May 2014.
