Steve Carell Lines Up ‘Great Hope Springs’ With Meryl Streep

Hollywood.comAssuming he plays his cards right, Steve Carell is poised to transition from his career-making stint on NBC’s The Office, which he is scheduled to leave this Spring, into a much more serious film career. So far, it looks like Carell is on the right track.

According to Deadline, Carell has entered into negotiations to star alongside the legendary Meryl Streep in director David Frankel‘s Great Hope Springs. Carell would play marriage counselor Dr. Feld in the drama, which centers on a long-married couple (Streep and another actor, TBD) trying to rekindle the lost spark in their marriage during a weekend of intensive therapy.

Production is set to begin on Great Hope Springs this August, with Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada) directing from a script by television writer Vanessa Taylor — herself no stranger to the subject matter, having written for HBO’s In Treatment precursor Tell Me You Love Me.

Great Hope Springs will be the first of many prominent film roles for Carell as he transitions fully away from television. Next up for the actor is Burt Wonderstone for New Line and Crazy, Stupid Love with Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore, with Get Smart 2 (which he also wrote) waiting in the wings.
