‘Die Hard 5’ Filming Next Year?

Live Free Or Die HardDid you really think that John McClane was going to throw in the towel after just four movies? Think again. Latino Review is reporting that 20th Century Fox is moving forward with Die Hard 5 (working title) and will shoot portions of the film in Puerto Rico.

The news comes from Puerto Rico’s second-largest newspaper “Primera Hora” and quotes Gustavo Rivera Aparicio, who’s credited as general manager of 20th Century Fox offices in PR, confirming that Die Hard 5 will film in Puerto Rico in 2011 (with additional locations including New York, Los Angeles and Vancouver). The move was made following successful shoots for Fast Five, The Losers and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in the area, so you can be assured that Bruce Willis and company won’t just be making a movie, but partying hard in the tropical territory as well.

I’m not too sure how I feel about another John McClane adventure. 2007’s lackluster Live Free Or Die Hard showed me that, while Willis is still capable of kicking ass, without a level-headed director the franchise just goes too far over the top. With Len Wiseman busy remaking Total Recall over at Sony, there’s an opening for a competent filmmaker to return McClane to his gritty roots, but will Fox go in that direction? A script from Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) doesn’t inspire much confidence. I’ll wait for confirmation from the studio before passing judgment, as this report does seem a bit premature but I don’t know if I’ll be chanting Yipee Ki-Yayyy just yet.
