‘The Conjuring’ Trailer Shows the Real Haunted Family That Inspired the Movie

Family moves into house. Spooky things happen. Family realizes house is haunted.

The Conjuring is not the first movie to have this premise (other notable examples include The Amityville Horror, The Messengers, and The Haunting), but it possibly represents the first time that such a movie has been based on very true events. And if there was ever any doubt about the truth to the story of The Conjuring, the movie’s newest trailer settles it.

The Conjuring tells the story of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who, in 1971, helped the Perron family in their battle against the evil spirits that haunted their secluded Rhode Island farmhouse.

The third trailer for the movie includes interview footage with the real-life Perron family whose experiences inspired the movie. While being faced with the reality that these events actually took place could make the movie seem even scarier, it’s also a bit comforting to see that they are alive and well so many years after their terrifying time in a haunted house.

The Conjuring hits theaters on July 19.
