Swoosie Kurtz: ‘I had an abortion’

Actress Swoosie Kurtz is still struggling with her decision to have an abortion in the 1960s. The Liar Liar star was discussing the significance of her role in the 1996 abortion-focused film Citizen Ruth on Wednesday (30Apr14), when she let it slip she underwent the procedure as a young woman.
She told HuffPost Live, “(The film) was very important to me, because I had an abortion. Gosh, did I just say that?
“It was very, very difficult for me. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever been through in my life. On all levels. Impossibly difficult and anguishing”
Kurtz also revealed she never told her mother about the abortion.
She continued, “It was the one thing I never told my mother. I told her everything in my life, but that was the one thing I just couldn’t. I don’t know why. I just couldn’t at that point.”
