Ariana Grande Just Perfectly Slammed This Terrible Double Standard In The Music Industry

Ariana Grande has called on male artists to stop using hateful language against women in their song lyrics.

The 22-year-old pop star’s comments are rumoured to be directed at her rapper ex-boyfriend Big Sean, 28, who she split from last year (15). Big Sean, real name Sean Michael Leonard Anderson, teamed up with Drake on the 2013 song All Me, which featured the line “Ho, shut the f**k up.

“When men talk about women in songs it’s like, ‘Oh hell yeah, hos and b***hes’. And if a girl makes a song about a break up then it’s like ‘Wow, I can’t believe she did that’, or What a sl*t'” she told British newspaper The Daily Mirror.

“Whether it’s the music industry or real-life we need to break the standard and it needs to go away soon,” she added.

Ariana’s ex Sean is a regular collaborator with Chris Brown and has referred to women as “b***hes” in many of his controversial songs including Control and 2015’s Deserve It.

Meanwhile, Ariana counts on her own girl squad for backup, including music industry peers Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Shakira who she says “know I have mad love for them” and are “supportive”.

As well as her singing success, Ariana has recently been showing off her acting skills, and hosted Saturday Night Live earlier this month (Mar16).

The comedy sketch show featured Ariana performing double duty as host and musical guest. She got the opportunity to showcase her acting talents during a mermaid sketch alongside Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong.

It was reported that director Steven Spielberg had been in touch after the show to compliment Ariana on her talent, which the singer confirms is true.

“It’s so crazy. Steven really liked my performance on Saturday Night Live and got in touch. He was very complimentary and I’ve always loved acting. I was like, ‘Wow is this real life?!'” she told British newspaper The Sun (31Mar16).

The star released a sultry music video for her latest single Dangerous Woman on Wednesday night (30Mar16), much to the delight of her fans who viewed it 300,000 times within just an hour.

Her new album of the same name is released on 20 May (16)
