Actor Bryan Cranston will be showing off a different side of his acting talent in upcoming teen action movie Power Rangers.
Movie executives at Lionsgate studio took to Twitter on Tuesday (21Jun16) to announce that the six-time Primetime Emmy Award winner has boarded the project and he will be depicting character Zondor, who serves as group mentor for the five superheroes.
The veteran actor will star alongside fellow Hollywood heavyweight Elizabeth Banks, who is depicting evil villainous Rita Repulsa in the film, and fresh talents Becky G. (The Yellow Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (The Red Ranger), RJ Cyler (The Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott (The Pink Ranger) and Ludi Lin (The Black Ranger).
Although some fans may be shocked to learn Cranston has signed up to star in a teeny-bopper sci-fi movie after playing a no-nonsense drug dealer in television show Breaking Bad, his new role as Zondor seems to pose quite the challenge for an ambitious actor. The extraterrestrial commander he is depicting is a bodiless being who advises the Power Rangers from a glass tube, meaning the 60-year-old star will have to perform the role by demonstrating expert command of using his face muscles to express feelings and other sentiments to make his persona believable.
But it seems Cranston is very much up for the challenge, as he has already been doing research on the Power Rangers franchise. Writing in a tweet on Tuesday, Cranston made reference to actor Billy Cranston, who played the Blue Ranger in the hit 1990s kids television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, while posing fans with a fun quiz.

The forthcoming Power Rangers movie, which is a modern adaptation of the sensationally successful 1990s TV show, will reach U.S. cinemas on 24 March (17).
