Jai Courtney: ‘I want to make another Suicide Squad film’

Actor Jai Courtney is defending Suicide Squad against bad reviews, insisting it is difficult to make a movie that appeals to everyone.
The film premiered in August (16) and while it was successful at the box office, it was met with harsh criticisms from critics and some fans.
Jai played Captain Boomerang in the film alongside Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, and he is praising director David Ayer for taking the filmmaking risks he did – despite them not appealing to the masses.
“How do you please everyone,” he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “And I don’t think Suicide Squad ever intended to. So no one’s setting out to upset the fan base, certainly not a fan base that can be as loyal as this kind of crowd can. But I don’t know how you can push the envelope or try and protect something (without taking risks). I know what I like in a movie, and it’s not the same thing as my twelve-year-old niece. It’s a challenge, and David (Ayer) did an incredible job, and I sure as hell hope we get to make another one with him.”
Rumours have been swirling the cast may reunite for a sequel film, but it has also been suggested the 30-year-old will reprise his role for Rick Famuyiwa’s The Flash, starring Ezra Miller.
When asked about the reports he was coy with his reply, saying, “Is that the rumor? I like that rumor. I like that a lot.”
Jai also went on to insist competition films from the Marvel movie studio like the Iron Man and The Avengers franchises have been more successful because the movie bosses have had more time to figure out what appeals.
“Well DC (who made Suicide Squad) is still the bad guy too, you know, and Marvel has this incredible formula that seems to work,” he said. “They’ve had the time to let that s**t marinate. Everything’s established now, we don’t have to figure out who anyone is. It’s like, ‘Cool, get them all together and let’s have a f**king orgy and make a billion dollars’.”
