Jesse Metcalfe credits Christian faith with sobriety

Actor Jesse Metcalfe turned to his Christian faith to help him conquer his drink demons.
The former Desperate Housewives star struggled with substance abuse after shooting to fame as Eva Longoria’s boytoy lover on the hit drama series, and he ended up checking into rehab in 2007.
He admits he found comfort in prayer during his darkest days and he credits religion with helping him to eventually turn his life around.
“(Faith is) really important to me,” Jesse told Fox 411. “I really discovered a connection with a higher power and with God as I understand him probably five years ago when I got sober through the 12 steps of Alcoholic Anonymous.”
“A large part of that programme is giving the will and character life over to God – or a God as you understand him – and prayer is also a big part of that program as well,” he continued. “I feel that that really helped me overcome a difficult time in my life and since then has really deepened and enriched my life in a lot of ways.”
Jesse’s religious connection has also influenced his choice of new movie, after signing on to appear in faith-based film God’s Not Dead 2, in which Melissa Joan Hart stars as a teacher whose Christian faith is questioned and lands her at the centre of a lawsuit.
