Megan Mullally Was Horrified To By Her New Character’s Tattoo

Megan Mullally was horrified to learn she’d have to wear a swastika tattoo for her newest TV comedy creation.

The former Will & Grace star is virtually unrecognisable as white supremacist Leanne in new show You, Me and the Apocalypse, and the actress admits she really struggled to come to terms with her racist forehead ink.

“There was a lot of freaking out over the tattoo,” she tells TV Guide. “I don’t want to, in any way, give the impression that that’s OK… but there wasn’t that much I could do about it.”

Mullally reveals she reluctantly let make-up experts tattoo the swastika on her head on the first day of shooting, believing that show creator Iain Hollands was just trying out ideas for her convict character, but when NBC executives bought the American rights to the British programme on the second day of shooting, the inking was already a big part of the comedy series.

“In future episodes… you’ll notice I suddenly have a hat,” Megan continues.

And she assures anyone offended by her latest character’s look and beliefs that Leanne becomes a better person on the show.

“She’ll learn that maybe that’s not the greatest approach to life,” Mullally notes.

You, Me and the Apocalypse launched in the U.K. in September (15), and it debuts in America on 28 January (16).

The comedy also features Jenna Fischer, Mathew Baynton, Dave Bosley and Pauline Quirke.
