Notting Hill bookshop closure sparks campaign

The Travel Bookshop acts as the backdrop for the hit romantic comedy, which pulled in more than $360 million (£220 million) at the box office in 1999.

The store has become a popular tourist attraction, but is now two weeks away from closing its doors after the current owner failed to find a new buyer.

Local writers and poets have launched a campaign to save the shop, with many offering to work for free to run the store if a buyer can be found.

Alec Baldwin, who played Roberts’ boyfriend in the movie, also helped raise awareness, tweeting Save the Travel Book Shop on his Twitter.com page.
