Zoë Kravitz was considered ‘too urban’ for The Dark Knight Rises

Zoë Kravitz missed out on the chance to land a role in The Dark Knight Rises, because she was considered “too urban” for the role.

The Big Little Lies star has just landed the role of Selina Kyle and her alter ego, Catwoman, in Matt Reeves’ new movie The Batman, but in a 2015 interview with Nylon magazine, Zoe revealed she couldn’t even get an audition for director Christopher Nolan’s film, starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader.

“In the last Batman movie, they told me that I couldn’t get an audition for a small role they were casting because they weren’t ‘going urban’,” she said.

Anne Hathaway, who played Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, was among the first celebrities to congratulate Kravitz on landing the new Batman role.

She took to Twitter and wrote: “The biggest congrats to @zoeisabellakravitz on landing the role of a lifetime. Well, one life anyway… ⁣⁣Enjoy the ride, Selena (sic).”

According to Variety, Kravitz beat out Zazie Beetz and Eiza Gonzalez for the role of Catwoman.

Robert Pattinson will play the title character in The Batman, while Jonah Hill is in talks to play a villain.
