2022 Emmy Awards: The Highlights

Television stars and artists gathered together for the 2022 Emmy Awards on Monday, September 12 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. Audiences came to celebrate the power of television on cable and on streaming.

Hosted by SNL cast member Kenan Thompson, the show was filled with historic wins, emotional monologues, and hilarious moments. Here are some of our favorite moments from the 2022 Emmy Awards.

Jennifer Coolidge dances off her acceptance speech

Jennifer Coolidge gave the acceptance speech of a lifetime after winning her first Emmy for her role in The White Lotus. While throwing out lines about bursting out of her dress and taking a lavender bath, the show tried to end her speech with music. With “Hit the Road Jack” playing in the background, she danced along. The audience on and off screen bursted into laughter proving she’s a great comedian at heart.

Beloved TV theme songs get a revamp

Host Kenan Thompson gave the audience a hip shaking performance, as he remixed popular theme songs. Shows like Friends, The Brady Bunch, Game of Thrones and Law & Order got a hip-hop remix of their own. It seems like the Emmys wanted to mix with the Grammy Awards.

Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler fight crime and their feelings once again

In a little skit, Law & Order SVU‘s favorite duo Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni chased an Emmy robber through the theater. Once they captured the robber and the stolen Emmy, the two looked in each other’s eyes and almost went in for the kiss. For all Law & Order fans out there, they’ve been waiting years for a romantic moment between the 2.

Sheryl Lee Ralph sings her speech

Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph won the Emmy for her performance as kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard. She becomes the 2nd Black woman to win an Emmy in the history of the award show. To begin her speech, Ralph belted out a verse from the 1993 song “Endangered Species.” She motivated everyone who has a dream to fight for it, with the help of amazing friends, family, and colleagues.

Selma Blair returns to stage with thunderous applause

As Selma Blair walked to the stage to announce the final award of the night, the audience gave her a standing ovation. The actress has been battling multiple sclerosis since her diagnosis in 2018. She attempted to hold back her emotion as artists cheered for her. This moment only proved the undying support within the arts community and the strength of Selma Blair
