Australian TV personality and radio host Donnie Sutherland is recovering after undergoing surgery to remove his voice box. The former Sounds Unlimited host is battling throat cancer, and underwent the life-changing operation at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia on Thursday (18Dec14).
Part of his throat was removed along with his voice box, and it is hoped the 69 year old will be able to have an electronic device implanted in the future to help him speak again.
Prior to the surgery, Sutherland insisted he is determined to beat the cancer, saying, “I don’t want to die. I want to hang around and do something useful in the entertainment industry.”
