These Character Portraits For ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ Will Make You Wish You Were In London

This year, muggles near and far can rejoice over the revival of J.K. Rowling‘s magical world. Along with the long-awaited release date of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, theater-goers can anticipate Harry’s West End debut. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is giving diehard fans something to rave about. It’s a fleshed-out epilogue that takes place 19 years after the series’ culmination. The two-part play will open this July at the Palace Theatre and is totally the reason we’re debating an impromptu trip to foggy London. These recently released character portraits are even more reason to invest in that plane ticket…

We’re geeking out over the Potter’s family portrait (sans James Sirius and Lily Luna). The Cursed Child centers around “The Boy Who Lived”, now a man employed at the Ministry of Magic, and his Hogwarts-bound son, Albus Severus.  Judging by the title of this play and the fact that Harry Potter is his father, we’re guessing Albus’ first year at school isn’t going to be smooth sailing. Also, we think the actors chosen for this trio (Jamie Parker, Sam Clemmett and Poppy Miller) are the perfect choices to carry on the story’s legacy.

Ron and Hermione shippers will have a field day with this newly-minted promo. While the decision to cast a Black actress as Hermione caused conversation on Twitter, Rowling herself is all about the choice, saying that our the fictional heroine’s ethnicity was never specified; only “brown eyes and frizzy hair”. We’re loving this new pic of our favorite duo! Ron (Paul Thornley) is looking adorable as a dad in his late thirties and Hermione (Noma Dumezweni) looks like a total boss (we’re guessing she’s basically running the wizard world by now). Though Hugo Weasley isn’t shown, we’ll undoubtedly see daughter Rose (Cherrelle Skeete) off to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!

The Malfoys are looking somber in their new family photo. While Mrs. Malfoy is MIA, an older, more intimidating Draco (Alex Price) is posed with son, Scorpius (Anthony Boyle). We’re wondering what exactly the infamous Slytherin is up to now, and where his son falls into things in this new chapter. From the looks of this photo, Scorpius’s body language doesn’t exactly shout “class bully” like his father.

Have you purchased your airline ticket yet? If not, a script version of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be available in muggle bookstores and e-readers on July 31, 2016.
