Martine McCutcheon hopes she and Hugh Grant’s Love Actually characters are still in love in the new mini sequel.
The actress starred in the 2003 romantic comedy as potty-mouthed junior employee Natalie, who struck up a romance with Hugh’s prime minister character David by the end of the story. The cast, also including Keira Knightley, Colin Firth and Liam Neeson, are set to reunite for Britain’s Comic Relief charity, with filmmaker Richard Curtis back in the director’s chair. But with very little plot detail revealed Martine is clueless about what her alter ego is up to.
“I’m hoping me and Hugh are still together because we’re filming together. I haven’t been sent a script, I’ve just been in wardrobe,” she laughed on British TV show Loose Women, continuing to share her dreams for Natalie and David.
“I really hope they’ve had a couple of kids and he’s still doing his silly dancing, and for him still to be in Downing Street. I’m hoping the magic of it all comes back for something so lovely.”
The former soap actress and Notting Hill star have stayed friends since working on the beloved movie, with Martine putting their good “banter” down to their different backgrounds and added that she couldn’t wait to perform opposite him once again.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed there will be no tribute to Love Actually star Alan Rickman, who died of cancer aged 69 last year (16), as director Richard felt it would be “too complicated”.
His former film wife Emma Thompson is also going to be missing from the short, which Martine can understand as she noted she wouldn’t feel right doing it without her onscreen love interest either.
Red Nose Day Actually will air on the BBC on 24 March (17) as part of Red Nose Day, which was founded by Richard and comedian Lenny Henry to help support anti-poverty causes around the globe.
