Confirming yesterday’s reports, each of the major movie studios has opted not to release weekend box office grosses until Monday, July 23. As a sign of respect for the victims of the Friday morning shooting in Aurora, Colo. during the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros’ peers have joined in the studio’s decision to withhold numbers this weekend, setting business aside to engage in an unprecedented act of solidarity.

Hollywood.com Box Office Analyst Paul Dergarabedian notes that although the grosses will be reported on Monday, this is a time when “dollars and cents seem trivial,” and calls the studios’ acts “the right way to honor the victims and their families.”
