BTS were the big winners at the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday (November 15, 2020) night, landing four top honors for Best Group, Best Album, Best Video, and Best Song.
The K-Pop band’s hit Dynamite gave them an edge over tracks by Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion, and Ariana Grande, who was among the night’s double winners, alongside Grey’s Anatomy, Hamilton, Riverdale, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and Bad Boys For Life, which landed the top film prize.
Accepting their prize for Best Group, BTS said in a pre-recorded video: “I know it’s been a tough year for everyone, it was for us too. But we didn’t stay idle, we focused on what we could do the best which is music.
“We realized we have our music – our life goes on. We really want to thank you for listening to our music this year, and we hope our music can keep you going and living on.”
Member Suga was absent from the video as he continues to recover following shoulder surgery earlier this month.
Hosted by Demi Lovato at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California, the prizegiving featured performances by Justin Bieber and Chloe x Halle.
Other winners at the People’s Choice Awards included Tracee Ellis Ross, who thanked her mother Diana Ross as she accepted the Fashion Icon Award, People’s Champion Tyler Perry, and Will Smith and Tiffany Haddish, who were named Male and Female Movie Star of 2020, respectively.
Leslie Jones gave arguably the most excited acceptance speech of the evening as she accepted the gong for The Comedy Act of 2020, while Becky G, Doja Cat, and Blake Shelton were among the other musical winners of the night.
