Jennifer Lopez is squealing in delight after scoring her first Golden Globe nomination in more than 20 years for her stripper movie Hustlers.
The superstar was shortlisted for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture category when the news was announced on Monday morning (December 9, 2019), and she couldn’t contain her excitement as she reflected on the industry praise from members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in a candid video post on Instagram.
“Hi guys, I’m just waking up and I just heard that I got nominated for best supporting actress for a Golden Globe. Oh my God, it’s been 20 years since I was nominated for Selena…,” a beaming and barefaced J.Lo exclaimed.
“I am humbled and so excited to be recognized for this role as Ramona in Hustlers. Thank you so much!” she added, before squealing with happiness.
In the accompanying caption, Lopez wrote, “Could not be prouder to be recognized by the HFPA. Ramona was a complicated character and it was an honor and challenge to bring her to life.
“Hustlers was a labor of love, sweat and perseverance written, directed, produced, edited and starring a group of bad-a** women. I am proud and honored to represent them and this film!!!! #HustlersMovie #ramona”.
Lopez was last nominated for the 1998 Golden Globes for her portrayal of tragic Latin singer Selena Quintanilla in the 1997 biopic Selena, but she was beaten to the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical award by Helen Hunt in As Good as It Gets.
This time around, Lopez will face competition from Kathy Bates (Richard Jewell), Annette Bening (The Report), Laura Dern (Marriage Story), and Margot Robbie (Bombshell).
The 2020 Golden Globes will take place in Beverly Hills, California on January 5th.
