Selena Gomez desperate to be taken seriously as an actress

Selena Gomez wants to focus on a career in acting “so bad”, but confessed fans “can’t separate” herself from her character.

The singer rose to fame on the hit Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, which debuted in 2007, and went on to appear in films Spring Breakers, Getaway, and 2019’s The Dead Don’t Die.

Speaking with WSJ. Magazine for its annual Talents & Legends issue, the 27-year-old admitted her love of appearing in front of the camera, but revealed she’s just not landing roles.

“I want to do movies so bad. I want to do TV so bad,” she said. “I find that I look too young most of the time, or people can’t separate the two (the real Selena from a character), which bums me out.”

However, the Wolves hitmaker isn’t defeated, admitting: “I continue to audition, and I just have to wait for whenever my time is.”

In addition to her work in front of the camera, Selena has also carved out a successful career behind the scenes, serving as executive producer on the Netflix television drama series 13 Reasons Why and documentary series Living Undocumented.
