UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Apr. 22, 2001 — Sitcoms Will & Grace, Malcolm in the Middle and the mockumentary feature Best in Show ran away with top honors Sunday night at the 15th Annual American Comedy Awards.
The dog-show farce, directed and co-written by Christopher Guest, won awards for Funniest Motion Picture, Funniest Supporting Female (Catherine O’Hara) and Funniest Supporting Male (Fred Willard). Will & Grace’s Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes won for their hilarious supporting turns, and Malcolm nabbed awards for Jane Kaczmarek (Funniest Female Performer in a Television Series) and Bea Arthur’s guest appearance. Garry Shandling also presented George Carlin with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Comedy.
The American Comedy Award nominees are decided by some 3,200 comedic performers, network, studio and cable executives, agents, managers, publicists, talent executives and others associated with the comedy industry. Performers working in comedy then vote for the winners. The show will air on Comedy Central on Apr. 25th at 8 p.m ET/PT.
