Poldark’s Eleanor Tomlinson had instant chemistry with Aidan Turner

Eleanor Tomlinson’s working relationship with Poldark co-star Aidan Turner is so special because of the “love and respect” they have for each other.
The British actress shot to fame at the age of 22 as the flame-haired Cornish heroine Demelza, who falls in love with Captain Ross Poldark, played by Aidan, who became famous for his shirtless scenes in the show.
The pair enjoyed a smouldering chemistry in the BBC1 period drama, and in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar’s U.K., Eleanor admitted it was apparent from the moment they met.
“You can’t name what it is that Aidan and I had,” Eleanor told the publication. “It was just there from the first screen test. There’s a lot of love between us and a lot of respect. I’ve spent every day for six months with him for the past five years… you do form this bond.”
The 26-year-old added that the pair have relied on each other for support during its run, and the long days and nights of filming on the windswept Cornish coastline.
“We’ve been each other’s support network and that shows,” she smiled. “We have a real commitment to each other. We lean on each other to get through it.”
Sadly for fans of the show, the pair’s romance has been confined to the small screen, with Aidan, 35, currently in a two-year relationship with actress Caitlin FitzGerald, his co-star in new film The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot. Meanwhile, Eleanor dated her co-star Harry Richardson, 25, who plays her brother Drake Carne in the costume drama, for a year before they split last June.
Poldark is coming to an end with its fifth and final season later this year, and Eleanor added that saying goodbye to Demelza was “bittersweet”.
“I don’t feel sad because I’ll carry Demelza with me as she’s shown me so much about who I am,” she smiled. “I’ll see the actors and crew again, so it doesn’t feel like goodbye, more like see you on the next project or in the pub for a glass of wine rather than a wet Cornish clifftop.”
